After dignitaries paid tributes to departed souls at Air Force Station in Guwahati on Tuesday, mortal remains dispatched to respective hometowns on Wednesday
Guwahati: Mortal remains of three Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) of 4 Assam Regiment, who died in a mishap at Solan in Himachal Pradesh recently, were consigned to flames on Wednesday.
The commandant of Assam Regimental Centre and other dignitaries paid tributes to the departed souls at Air Force Station, Guwahati as the bodies were transported to Guwahati by military aircraft on Tuesday.
Later, the mortal remains were dispatched to their respective hometowns. The last rites of Subedar Major Prodip Chandra Bhuyan were performed on the night of Tuesday with full military honours at his native place in Bhuyan Patty in Nagaon.
The ceremonial cremation of Subedar Bisharsing Basumatary was carried out at Chhata Malgoan in Dhubri on Wednesday. Sub Henkhomang’s funeral was conducted at the Assam Regimental Centre cemetery, Happy Valley Shillong with full military honours on Wednesday and was attended by the commandant and all officers of the centre, among others.
A total of 13 JCOs died in the incident, nine of whom were from the Northeast. A special Air Force aircraft brought the nine bodies from Chandigarh Air Base. The aircraft delivered the mortal remains of two individuals in Imphal, four in Silchar and three in Guwahati.
The names of the gallant soldiers are Sub Maj Prodip Chandra Bhuyan (Nagoan, Assam), Sub Bisharsing Basumatary (Dhubri, Assam), Sub Henkhomang Gangte ( Happy Valley, Shillong), Sub Ajit Kumar Singha (Hailakandi, Assam), N/Sub M Rajkishore Singha ( Hailakandi, Assam), Sub Sujit Sharma ( Karimganj, Assam), Sub Kumar Chorei ( Karimganj, Assam), Sub K Lalson Vaiphei ( Churachandpur, Manipur), N/Sub M Nobin Chandra Singh ( Thoubal, Manipur), Sub Balwinder Singh ( Jind, Haryana), Sub Yogesh Kumar (Ghaziabad, UP), N/Sub Vinod Kumar ( Rewari, Haryana), Sub Rajen Bahadur . The mortal remains of Sub Maj Prodip Chandra Bhuyan, Sub Bisharsing Basumatary and Sub Henkhomang Gangte arrived at Air Force Station in Guwahati.
A ceremony was organised where wreaths were laid by Air Commodore T Mare, AOC, Air Force Station Guwahati, Brig RK Gaikwad, Commandant Assam Regiment Centre, Shillong and other senior officers.
