People from neighbouring state targeted in upper Assam district after accident involving car and a bike leads to violence that claims lives of 3 locals
Guwahati: Three persons from a neighbouring state, who were lodging at a hotel in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, were beaten up by a group of unidentified miscreants in the intervening night of July 3 and 4.
The three injured persons were putting up at a hotel in Paltan Bazar area when the incident happened.
As per reports, a group of unidentified miscreants forcefully barged into Hotel Moon Star in Paltan Bazar and beat up the trio on suspicion of being an accused in a road rage case that took happened in the locality earlier in the evening. The miscreants also snatched away their belongings, including Rs 5,000 in cash, two driving licences, two Aadhaar cards, two ATM cards and two mobile phones.
The attack was reportedly an aftermath of an accident in which a Maruti Swift Dzire car hit a bike-borne person in the locality earlier in the evening. In the ensuing violence, two persons were killed and three others severely injured. Although the car bore a registration plate from a neighbouring state, it was actually owned by a person from Assam’s Tinsukia district.
Seeking justice, the victims appealed the Assam state government to take strict action against the culprits. They further requested the authorities concerned to hand over their belongings at the earliest.
Meanwhile, condemning the assault on the Arunachali men, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) demanded both the Assam and Arunachal Pradesh state governments to take the matter seriously and give exemplary punishment to those involved in the crime.
Meanwhile, Dibrugarh police have tightened security across the district and appealed people to maintain peace and not to pay heed to any kind of rumours.
