Guwahati: Two persons were killed and three others severely injured in a clash that broke out between two groups over a road accident at Paltan Bazar area of Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Wednesday.

The two deceased -- Dipak Mech, Ratul Bora -- and the three injured persons -- Pranjit Bhuyan, Rupam Nath & Manoj Dutta -- were working as fourth-grade employees at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh.

While Mech died on his way to AMCH, Bora succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The other three, who sustained severe injuries in the scuffle, are said to be in a critical state and are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The scuffle between the two groups broke out after a Maruti Swift Dzire car bearing no. AR-20-4847 hit a bike on AMCH Road around 10 pm.

As per sources, Gunin Chetia of Laipuli in Tinsukia district was on his way to AMCH for his mother’s medical treatment when his car suddenly hit a bike near Paltan Bazar area. Following the mishap, some unidentified miscreants stopped the car and allegedly attacked him, his wife and mother inside the car.

After the incident, without responding, Chetia went home only to return to the accident spot with his friend Sonu Ahmed of Dibrugarh later in the night. They allegedly attacked the miscreants with sharp weapons after identifying them in the same spot.

After the death of two persons, angry locals searched for the culprits who fled from the spot. They also damaged the Swift car.
