The 20-year-old footballer played 20 matches for Chennai City last season; scored 2 goals in their final match of the season to hand title to the team from Tamil Nadu
Guwahati: Assam boy Gaurav Bora, who was instrumental in Chennai City FC’s heroic I-League triumph and was on loan with the Coimbatore-based club from FC Pune City, joined Delhi Dynamos FC on Thursday.
Bora, 20, played 20 matches for Chennai City FC last season and scored 2 goals in their final match of the season to hand the title to the team from Tamil Nadu.
“I am really happy to join Delhi Dynamos FC. Thank you to the management and the coach for wanting me here. I will try my best to be in the team first and play with the best of my abilities. Hopefully, we end the season at the top of the table, as high as possible,” said Bora.
Bora, the I-League 2018-19 'emerging player of the year', managed to grab quite a few eyeballs last season.
Commenting on the development, Delhi Dynamos FC director Rohan Sharma said, “I feel very fortunate to have signed Gaurav. In line with our club ideology we firmly believe in India’s young talent and Gaurav to me is one of the (if not the most) talented young Indian defenders we have.”
A former Delhi state team player, Bora also made his Indian team debut earlier this year when he represented India in the 2020 AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers.
“He plays with a lot of maturity and intelligence considering he’s only 20. We want to do our utmost to make sure he’s not only best centre back for the club, but a regular national team defender,” Sharma added.
Head Coach Josep Gombau was also in all praise of Bora. “I am so happy to have Gaurav in my squad. He is a very young talented Indian player and he has a lot of hunger. He had a very good last season where he won the trophy with Chennai City and I believe he can bring to us a lot.”
