Assam: 2 rhino poachers nabbed from Biswanath, arms recovered

The police seized two 0.303 rifles with two magazines from the accused; they were carrying them concealed in a gunny bag containing rice husk; bike, mobiles recovered

Guwahati: In a major operation conducted jointly by the Crime Investigation Range of Biswanath wildlife division and Gingia police, two notorious rhino poachers -- Mohammed Habit Ali and Mohammed Abdul Sohid -- were arrested from National Highway-15 near Cristal Maze of Baghamari area of Assam’s Biswanath District on Friday evening.

The police recovered two 0.303 rifles with two magazines from them which they were found carrying concealed in a gunny bag containing rice husk. Also, one mobile phone and a motorcycle bearing were recovered from them.

Both the nabbed persons hail from Boludunga village under Biswanath Chariali police station, said the police.

A case has been registered against them in Gingia police station vide reference number CIR/04 OF 2019 DATE 14/06/2019.

The two teams of forest department and the police were led by Ranger Pranjal Baruah, Crime Investigation Range, Biswanath Charali; DSP of Biswanath Chariali Mussabar Rahman and OC Biswajit Medhi of Gingia police station.

One of the culprits, Hanif Ali, was arrested by Agaratali range in connection with offence on ER in January for attempt to hunt a rhino.

Assam forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya extended his congratulations to the whole team and the directorate of Kaziranga forest department on this major success and appealed all the people of the state to come forward and extend full cooperation to the forest department in eliminating such nature evils and take the preservation of nature as one of the greatest human responsibilities.
