Rebel apprehended from Assam’s Tinsukia district; investigation into the attack is almost in the final stage, said Guwahati commissioner of police Deepak Kumar
Guwahati: Intensifying its search operations to nab all the perpetrators behind the May 15 Guwahati grenade blast, Assam police on Tuesday apprehended Papu Koch alias Bijoy Asom, the prime accused in the case, from Doomdooma in Assam’s Tinsukia district.
The arrested ULFA(I) rebel was arrested around 5 pm from Dangori area of Doomdooma area on Tuesday. He was brought to Guwahati on Wednesday morning for further investigation.
As per sources from Assam Police, Bijoy Asom was the one who hurled the grenade at the crowd in front of the Guwahati Central shopping mall on the busy RG Baruah Road in Guwahati on May 15. “He was riding pillion on a scooty with accused Jahnabi Saikia on the the day of blast,” the source added.
Earlier, in a series of arrests, Assam Police apprehended pro-talk ULFA leader Pranamoy Rajguru and his accomplice Jahnabi Saikia from a rented house in Baghorbari area of Guwahati on May 16. Another bomb expert of the outfit, Amit Ballav Goswami, and member Indra Mohan Bora were arrested from Golaghat and Nagaon districts of Assam, respectively, on May 18.
Another ULFA(I) linkman Chinmoy Laskar was later arrested from Guwahati.
