Following the incident, angry villagers came out on the streets in protest; the victim was a homeopathic practitioner
Guwahati: A BJP worker was shot dead in Assam’s Dhubri district on Tuesday by unidentified assailants following which, on Wednesday, angry villagers came out on to the streets to protest the incident.
The victim, identified as Ruben Roy, was shot dead by two to four men in front of his residence. He was a homeopathic practitioner. The gunmen fired four bullets, two of which hit Roy and claimed his life, said the police.
Suspected to be a political killing, given the ongoing elections, it could also be a case of personal vendetta. A case has been registered and investigations are underway.
Dhubri goes to polls on April 23, the third and final phase of elections in the state.
Earlier this year, a BJP panchayat president in Assam was shot dead by unidentified gunmen and another party worker was critically injured in the same incident in Cachar district.
