In the last five years, PM Narendra Modi has done a lot of work for the people of Assam and Northeast, so people will be once again with him, says the party’s state unit general secy
Mangaldoi: Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Assam state unit general secretary Dilip Saikia, who is also the party's candidate for Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency, said that his focus will only be on development, if elected to power.
In an exclusive interview with EastMojo during one of his campaign trails recently, Saikia said: "Initially, we will discuss the issues of Assam and also the issues which focus on the development of the Northeast. Issues such as new bridges, new highways, new airways, waterways and the expectations of the lower middle-class people will be taken up in the coming years," said Saikia.
Saikia replaced sitting MP Ramen Deka to contest the Mangaldoi LS constituency after the party decided to drop three incumbent Parliamentarians taking into account the anti-incumbency factor against them, in March this year.
Talking about the BJP-Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) alliance, Saikia said he was happy to be working working with the regional party, as well as other small political forces. "All are with us, all the indigenous people, political parties are with us. So, we are in the 'Bikash Ke Path Par' in 'rajneeti' and the other parties like AIUDF and the Congress are in 'Binash Ke Path Par' in politics," he added.
We are focusing on only development and no other issues, Saikia explained. "We concentrate on development. In the last five years, Modiji [Prime Minister Narendra Modi] has done so much development work for the people of Assam and Northeast. So the people of Assam are overwhelmed with Modiji and once again we will see the government of Modij," he added.
Modi is different from others, he said. "Modiji always carries the pride of Assam -- the Gamusa -- with him in events and functions. In contrast, Manmohan Singh, who was Prime Minister for 10 years and was elected from Assam, never wore the Assamese 'gamusa'," he added.
