Setback for BJP in Assam’s Karbi Anglong: Raton Engti resigns

BJP unable to fulfill its promises made, deeply disappointed by the absence of internal democracy within the party, says the media convenor

Diphu: In what may come as a setback for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam's Karbi Anglong district, its media convenor Raton Engti resigned on Thursday alleging that the saffron party has not been able to fulfill its promises.

"I’ve resigned from the BJP because, as per its promises made in 2014, it has not been able to fulfill the," he said.

In his resignation letter addressed to Ratan Teron, BJP president for East Karbi Anglong district, Engti wrote: "I had joined the BJP in the year 2015. As an elected embassy, I was the first person to join the party with the anticipation that the party under the leadership of Narendra Modi would bring in radical change to the nation of India, the northeast and in particular the district of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Hills."

Engti said he has been deeply disappointed by the absence of internal democracy within the party. "It [the party] did not shy away from its vision to destroy the Indian constitution. We have so far said India as a nation of unity and diversity. Sadly, every institution came under attack… be it the CBI, financial institutions and so on. Not even the judiciary was left alone," he wrote.

Unfortunately, even the four pillars of democracy felt the brunt of the attack, Engti alleged. "The party also remained insensitive to the distress of the farmers. Most of the policies supported the rich and the poorest of the poor were ignored. Also, I am appalled by the communal agenda of the RSS and the BJP which remain as the two sides of the same coin," Engti said in his resignation letter.
