Changlang: The 18 Garhwal Rifles of the Indian Army along with the Arunachal Pradesh and Assam police on Saturday rescued a man who was abducted by two alleged members of the Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland, or NSCN (I-M).

Changlang superintendent of police Mihin Gambo said a missing complaint was registered on Saturday at the Namtok police station near here, following which necessary information was shared with the 18 Garhwal Rifles and Assam Police to look out for the missing person in their respective areas.

Information was received later in the afternoon that the missing person had been traced and he was allegedly abducted by two minor members of the NSCN-IM, the SP said.

Accordingly a joint operation was launched at the Phangsum village of Namtok circle from where the abducted man was rescued. The team also recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition.

“The relentless and swift effort of the security forces and the Changlang and Assam police led to the timely rescue of the abducted man. He was later reunited with his family members,” SP Gambo said.
