Itanagar: Union Minister for Tourism and Development of North Eastern States (DoNER) G Kishan Reddy on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the development of Parashuram Kund, a holy pilgrimage site in Arunachal’s Lohit district.
The project was sanctioned under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive’ (PRASHAD) scheme of the Ministry of Tourism at a cost of Rs 37.88 crore in January 2021.
PRASHAD is a Central Sector Scheme with complete financial assistance by the Government of India.
The scheme was launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the Ministry of Tourism in the year 2014-15 with the vision of focused infrastructure development to harness pilgrimage and heritage tourism destinations for its direct and multiplier effect upon employment generation and economic development.
The scheme is aimed at infrastructure development to envisage world class infrastructural development of sites with special emphasis on tourist facilities including facilitation centers, way-side amenities like parking, public convenience, illumination, sound and light shows, among others.
The components sanctioned under the scheme include interventions near the parking area, tourist information centre, rain shelters, kiosks, interventions near mela ground, view points, souvenir shops, pilgrim waiting hall, viewing gallery, slope stabilization, etc.
The day also saw Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat dedicate three water projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to the people of Arunachal.
The projects include Integrated Water Supply Project for Chongkham and enroute habitations, saturation of Chongkham Block under JJM and 303 completed schemes under the mission across Arunachal.
Among others, Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Tourism Minister Nakap Nalo attended both the events. (With inputs from PIB)
