Ziro: The Medical Colony, Hapoli town, the Bamin Michi and Hong villages in Arunachal Pradesh‘s Lower Subansiri district have been declared as containment zones following the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases, officials said on Tuesday.

Officials said that the Engineer, RWD and ADC colonies and the Pare Ami, Gano, Club Road, Khoyer, Mudang Tage, Hanoko and Dilopalyang areas have been declared as buffer zones.

Meanwhile, the head gaon burhas (village chiefs) from Hong and Bamin Michi villages, and members of the Medical Colony Bazaar Welfare Committee met at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Tuesday and discussed ways and means to ensure that everyone follows the SOPs that have been issued against the pandemic.

Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Somcha Lowang while urging all to take keen precautions also called for extending their cooperation to the contact tracing team.

Superintendent of Police, Harsh Indora and District Medical Officer, Dr Tage Kanno also attended the meeting.

The cumulative COVID-19 caseload of Arunachal Pradesh rose to 18,958 on Tuesday after the state reported its highest ever single-day spike of 220 new cases.

Arunachal at present has 1,536 active cases while a total of 2,54,743 people have been inoculated in the state so far.
