Itanagar: A team of Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) district administration led by extra assistant commissioner Datum Gadi and liasoning officer to ICR deputy commissioner Sanjiv Chakraborty cremated a dead body of a COVID-19 positive patient here on Thursday.

The person who succumbed to the COVID-19 infection was a teacher of Itanagar Government Higher Secondary School.

ICR district medical officer Dr Mandip Perme said the body was cremated following the COVID-19 guidelines.

Dr Perme said the deceased, who was infected with COVID-19 was hospitalised at Dedicated COVID Hospital at Chimpu near here since April 22 and he succumbed to the virus six days later on Wednesday.

“All the required formalities were carried out before the final rites and as per the wishes of the family members of the deceased,” the DMO said.

The frontier state of Arunachal Pradesh registered 165 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday taking the state’s overall tally to 18,062.

Out of the 165 cases, 44 were reported from the ICR alone which was followed by Lower Dibang Valley which reported 43 cases, West Kameng 13, Papum Pare 13, Lohit 9, Changlang 7 and Tawang 6.

The number of active cases in the state stands at 966 while 59 people have succumbed to the virus so far.

A total of 2,34,873 people have been inoculated in the state so far.
