Tawang: Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) secretary Inder Jit Singh underlined the low fund absorption capacity of the northeastern states due to which the funds lapse. He also said the quality of work should not suffer in a bid to complete projects within two-three years.
He made his observation at a review meeting of ongoing developmental works under the DoNER ministry at the Tawang deputy commissioner’s office in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday.
Singh chaired the meeting in presence of state chief secretary Naresh Kumar, DoNER joint secretary Anuradha S Chagti, planning, IPR and RWD secretary NT Glow, health secretary P Parthiban, Tawang DC Sang Phuntsok, SP Tawang Bomge Kamduk, ZPC Tawang Leki Gombu and other senior officers from the ministry of DoNER, state capital and all the heads of departments in the district.
Phuntsok gave a detailed presentation on project works under progress and proposed projects for the district.
The chief secretary highlighted the geographical strategic importance of the state, its remoteness and the need for improvement in air and digital connectivity. He also stressed the provision of fund for quality control with projects sanctioned and online system of updating progress on schemes at the ministry level from the states.
Seeking better fund absorption in the north-eastern states, Singh said: “The states need to identify the ministry according to their needs and projects and DoNER will play an active role in getting those projects approved by the ministry.” He stressed the need for special initiatives to expedite the completion of various projects in various districts of the north-eastern states, maintaining good standard and quality.
Glow conveyed his gratitude to the DoNER secretary, chief secretary and others for making the meeting successful.
Earlier, Kumar inspected various ongoing projects in Tawang including the walk-through market, CC pavement in the township, proposed parking in old market and proposed beautification site of the township while Parthiban launched the vaccination utsav at KDS District Hospital and inspected the under-construction IPD ward and interacted with the doctors and health workers.
