The Arunachal Pradesh police on Monday apprehended one Rajapio Kitsam Kitnya, a self-styled cadre of the NSCN-R from the Changlang district.
Changlang SP Mihin Gambo said Kitnya was arrested by a police team led by sub-inspector Kishen Kumar following a raid in the district’s Kangkho area on Monday.
Kitnya, 42, was one among several other militants who had managed to escape a fierce gun battle with the Assam Rifles last month, the SP said.
The encounter at Motong in Changlang’s Yatdam circle on March 16 had left one of the outfit’s cadres dead.
The deceased was later identified as Kappan Ngemu of Thamyang Village. Kitnya along with a few other cadres had managed to escape the gun battle and a hunt was accordingly launched by the police to track the fleeing militants.
