Arunachal: Road accident turns out to be murder, politician's son arrested

Techi Meena Lishi, who was 7-months pregnant, was found dead inside an SUV on November 5 near the Karsingsa block point, around 25km from Itanagar

Itanagar: What initially seemed to be a road accident has now turned out to be a murder case, with one of the accused allegedly confessing to the crime to the police in Itanagar.

Techi Meena Lishi (36) was found dead inside an SUV on November 5, near the Karsingsa block point, around 25km from the capital city. She was 7-months pregnant.

According to the deceased’s family members, Dathang Suyang, the person who was driving the vehicle when the incident took place has confessed to the crime. He is also one of the main accused in the case.

"The driver has already confessed his crime before the police. The murder was planned by Roni Lishi, Meena's husband, who had promised to pay him Rs 10 Lakh for the murder," the family member said.

So far, three FIRs have been received by the Banderdewa police station, among which one is from former Legislator, Lishi Legi.

Legi, who is the father of the prime accused (Roni Lishi) has mentioned in the FIR that the accident is mysterious and a proper investigation to be initiated.

"It was a pre-planned murder as the driver also had an accomplice to support him in the crime. The accomplice boarded the vehicle at Bage Tinali and once they reached a deserted area they started to attack Meena," the family member said.

"According to the driver's confession, Meena was already dead before the car was intentionally pushed towards the cliff to make it look like an accident," said the family member.

"The police have the confession. Now we want justice for Meena and her unborn child," the family member added.

Capital superintendent of police Jimmy Chiram said "two people have been arrested in connection with the case."

"During investigation we found out that there has been a conspiracy and there is high likelihood of foul-play and it may not be a simple case of accident," the SP added.

"The duo has been booked under certain sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including Section 302," SP Chiram said while adding that the police are still investigating the case.
