Itanagar: A spurt in the number of COVID-19 cases in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) has forced the district administration to add several areas of the region under the containment zone category.

An order issued by ICR district magistrate, Komkar Dulom on Friday said, the C-Sector area near the chief secretary’s quarter, the upper parts of All India Radio, the Satellite Colony, and the areas near Shiva Mandir Colony have been declared containment zones and the movement of people has been restricted.

The Gandhi Market Sector near the BSNL office and its surrounding areas, the Nangkar building at C-Sector, the Yasso Building and Industry Office and its surrounding areas, the backside of Government Higher Secondary School, the office of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union in ESS Sector and the areas near behind Arunodaya School in Vivek Vihar have also been contained.

The D and E Company barracks and Gates No 1 and 2 of Police Training Centre and the DFO Colony in Banderdewa have also been contained after 90 recruit constables positive for COVID-19 in the past four days.

“The containment order was issued following a report from the district medical officer and to stop the virus from spreading further,” the DM said.

The order said, “the inmates of the aforementioned areas would not be allowed to move out from their buildings/houses for 14 days starting Friday or unless permitted by the medical team.”

People will not be allowed to enter or exit the areas without prior approval, and the movement for the supply of essential items and other emergency services shall be regulated.

The essential items required by the inmates shall be regulated by the police/security guard as deployed by the ICR SP and the items shall be provided by the extra assistant commissioner (Itanagar) and circle officer (Banderdewa) by coordinating with the shopkeepers, home delivery firms in coordination with the police and health workers, the order said.

The DMO has been directed to carry out the Antigen/RT-PCR/TrueNAT testing of all the inmates at the earliest, instruct them on the period of quarantine, and other follow-up action to be taken.

“The sanitation of the building shall be carried out as and when required by the IMC and no gathering will be allowed in the buildings/houses,” the order said.
