Itanagar: Arunachal chief minister Pema Khandu inaugurated a prayer hall with the statue of Guru Padmasambhava at Chumi Gyatse in Tawang district on Monday.

Initiated in May 2018, the project is led by CM Khandu and supported by Indian Army. It was completed in June this year.

The area, despite holding major religious importance to the local Tibetan and Monpa community, lacked infrastructure to fulfill the aspirations of the locals. With the prayer hall, civil administration and Indian Army also improved the connectivity to this remote location by constructing a motorable road.

Khandu dedicated the hall to the people of Arunachal Pradesh for offering prayers at this highly revered site as he felt that this would boost the tourism to these remote areas. It is also a part of Indian Army’s initiative of nominating 2020 as the Year of Tourism.

The CM thanked the Army for providing assistance in making it a reality and reiterated the successful civil military bonhomie existing in the border state of Arunachal Pradesh. The event was also attended by MLAs of Dirang and Lumla and local Monpas of Tawang.
