Itanagar: A team of doctors from Arunachal Pradesh’s West Siang district on Tuesday removed a barbed fishing hook from the eye of a nine-year-old boy after it accidentally caught his eye.

Officials said that the hook was removed following a long and complex surgery carried out by the doctors at the general hospital in Aalo, the district headquarters of West Siang.

The boy was initially brought to out patient department (OPD) after which, Dr T Paser, on being informed, immediately asked the patient to be shifted to the operation theatre. There he was given general anaesthesia and Dr Hage Manya, an eye specialist, carried out the complex surgery, officials said.

Dr Manya said that there are possibilities that the kid may lose vision in the affected eye as the injury was intense and has caused retinal damage.
