Itanagar: After a circular from the capital complex deputy commissioner's office on June 12 regarding the discontinuation of food and lodging facilities for police personnel deputed in various paid quarantine facilities (hotels) was widely circulated on the Internet, angry residents took it to various social media platforms to show their resentment.

"In view of shortage of funds and without clear-cut government instruction, the fooding and lodging of police personnels in various paid quarantine centres under Itanagar capital region shall be discontinued with effect from 15th June 2020. They are required to make their own arrangement until Govt. approval is received for the same. Therefore, all the Managers of Hotel/PQCs under Itanagar Capital are directed to raise their bills only upto 15h June 2020 against fooding and lodging expense of police personnel put up in their hotels,” read the order from the DC.

Superintendent of police, Capital complex, Tumme Amo said, "Police being one of the frontline workers in the fight against corona virus, we also have some requirements, so in this case we want the lodging anyhow."

"If we go by the guidelines, an individual who is working at the quarantine centre cannot go back home frequently," he added.

"State's chief minister and home minister are already looking into the matter. Hopefully this issue will be resolved as soon as possible," the SP said.

Excluding the government quarantine facilities for the returnees, there are more than 20 hotels in the capital complex which are paid quarantine facilities. The district administration has asked all the hotels to lower the charges and strictly follow the standard operating procedure (SOP).
