“In all 18 families were evacuated since yesterday and our team is now working on the evacuation of livestock. Two relief camps have been set up so far for those rescued people,” said Dhawan.

“Several circulars were sent across by the district administration after the weather forecast received by us to tackle the situation,” he said.

"In view of the incessant torrential rain since the last part of May, all the major rivers and their tributaries in the district are in spate which may affect the flood-prone areas of the district. All the village heads are required to take immediate action to prepare advance plans to tackle the upcoming monsoon season and to be proactive and coordinate to minimize the damage and prevent loss of lives of human beings and livestock,” the deputy commissioner said.

“The district administration has also requested all the educational centres to create awareness on proper cleanliness and hygiene among students,” Dhawan said.
