Arunachal Pradesh issues weather warning due to Cyclone Amphan

Arunachal likely to face thunderstorm with lightning, gusty winds with speed of 40-50 kmph & heavy rainfall due to cyclone Amphan; weather warning issued

Itanagar: Arunachal is likely to face thunderstorm with lightning, gusty winds (speed 40-50 km per hour) and heavy rainfall on Thursday and Friday (May 21 and 22) due to the super cyclonic storm ‘Amphan’, said a communiqué from the ministry of earth science, Indian meteorological department and regional meteorological centre on Tuesday.

According to the severity, Arunachal Pradesh has been divided into orange and yellow warning areas. Falling under the orange warning areas, Tawang, West Kameng and East Kameng districts are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on Thursday and Friday. Whereas, heavy rainfall is expected over Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, Lower Subansiri, Siang, Longding and Tirap districts under yellow warning areas.

Moreover, thunderstorms with lightning and stormy winds with 40-50 km per hour is expected over Papumpare, Lower Siang, Upper Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit and Namsai districts.

Cyclone Amphan, which made landfall in India on Wednesday creating havoc in Odisha and West Bengal, is equivalent of a category 5 hurricane, claimed National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
