Arunachal CM lauds cops for ending manhunt of DSP Kamdak’s killer

Tagyung Yangfo alias Jombo Yangfo, the man accused of killing DSP Bomto Kamdak in 2016, was recently killed in encounter in West Kameng district

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday lauded the members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the state police department for ending the three-year-long manhunt of Tagyung Yangfo, who was wanted in connection with the killing of DSP Bomto Kamdak in 2016.

During the call-on by the SIT team led by DGP RP Upadhyaya and SP Dr Navdeep Singh Brar, Khandu said that the selfless dedication and tireless effort by the SIT have touched our hearts and skyrocketed the image of the state police force bringing in new vigour.

“We honour your service for inspiring greatness both within and outside the force,” said the chief minister.

He also appreciated the well-coordinated effort shown by the ground action team and the support team that worked behind the scenes to bring to an end the three-year-long search for the accused who was also wanted in several other police cases.

Khandu also acknowledged the SIT for its earlier achievements in apprehending several underground extortionists operating in the state. He said for governance to be effective, the police force has to be strong and efficient.

As reported by EastMojo earlier, Yangfo was reportedly killed in an encounter at Rama Camp Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh's West Kameng district on Saturday morning.

Earlier, Arunachal Pradesh Director General of Police had offered a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh for sharing information leading to the arrest of the man who allegedly killed DSP Bomto Kamdak in 2016.

The police officer was later conferred with the first Arunachal Ratna award in 2016. The special award instituted on the occasion of Independence Day that year carry a cash amount of Rs 1 lakh along with a gold medal and a roll of honour.

Kamdak, who was posted as a DSP in East Kameng district was killed in an exchange of gunfire between the police and miscreants at Seppa on August 13, 2016.
