Arunachal taekwondo players win big at South Asian Games in Nepal

Rupa Bayor and Gangphung Gangsa bring laurels to the state and nation by winning a silver and bronze medal, respectively, at tournament being held in Kathmandu

Itanagar: Arunachal's Rupa Bayor and Gangphung Gangsa have brought laurels to the state and the nation by winning a silver and bronze medal, respectively, at a taekwondo event during the 13th South Asian Games held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Nepal is hosting the regional sporting extravaganza for the third time from December 1 to 10 in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Janakpur. Nepal is the birthplace of the regional meet. It started under the banner of South Asian Federation Games in 1984 and returned for the second time in 1999.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated both of them through social media posts. Khandu also appreciated the efforts made by their coach Mari Karbak.

South Asian Games, formerly known as South Asian Federation Games, are a bi-annual multi-sport event held among the athletes from South Asia. At present, SAG are joined by eight members -- Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
