Itanagar: In an initiative to do away with classroom crunch in schools and to check attendance rate, the local administration of Lohit district in Arunachal Pradesh has come out with an idea of “school on a bus” by using ‘condemned’ buses as classrooms.

In one such initiative, the students of Government Primary School in Thowang are being taught inside a bus which consists of a blackboard and is beautifully painted with different colours and patterns. The initiative has not only improved attendance but is also promoting fun and interactive learning.

Lohit DC Prince Dhawan told Eastmojo, “This is not a school bus, rather a school on a bus.” Dhawan also informed that he went on a surprise visit to the school on Thursday and was shocked to see the increase in number of enrollments.

Children from nearby villages have also started joining this particular school. Our small initiative really is showing a huge impact, said Dhawan. “We are trying to paint many such condemned buses and transform those into beautiful classrooms,” he added.

“Not only buses but schools were also painted with striking colours. At least 11 schools are already painted by our volunteers,” said Dhawan.
