Indo-Tibetan Border Police conducts week-long celebration; organises blood donation drive, sports events and medical camp, among others, in Bhalukpong
Itanagar: Commemorating the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) organised a ‘Run for Martyrs’ event at Bhalukpong locality in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh on July 25.
Remembering India’s victory and the martyrdom achieved by our fallen soldiers in the Kargil war, ITBP personnel organised a 5-km marathon that kick-started early on Thursday morning. Apart from ITBP personnel, local people in large numbers, including students from the vicinity, participated in the marathon.
54th ITBP battalion deputy commandant Himanshu Tiwari flagged off the marathon event after a short welcome address to all the participants. Tiwari shared a brief history of the victorious Kargil War and about the sacrifices made by the bravehearts of our nation.
In the 5-km marathon, constable WM khokan of ITBP achieved the first position while Micheal Tayeng and Debu Sidishow of Bahalukpong, were adjudged the second and third winners, respectively. The winners of the event were awarded with prizes and gifts.
The ITBP kicked off the week-long celebration of Kargil Vijay Diwas across the country starting July 20 to commemorate India's victory in the war against Pakistan.
The paramilitary forces also organised other events including blood donation camp, sports event, medical camp, awareness lectures, debate competitions, excursion tour for children and photo gallery, among others. Short films related to Kargil War were also displayed before the public during the celebrations.
ITBP has also been conducting programmes felicitating heroes and bravehearts of the Kargil war and their families in eight day ‘Vijay Diwas’ celebrations which ended on July 27.
