Arunachal BJP MLAs’ training programme gets underway in Mumbai
Mumbai: A three-day orientation programme for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs from Arunachal Pradesh began on the Rambhau Mhalgi Prabhodini campus in Mumbai on Friday.
The inaugural function was attended by Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu, BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav, BJP MPs Vinay Sahasrabuddhe and Tapir Gao.
The chief minister said that after the formation of the first elected BJP government in Arunachal, people have high expectations. “To come up to their expectations and to deliver, the orientation programme is aimed at the capacity-building of MLAs to make them competent in their roles and responsibilities,” he said.
Khandu hoped that the MLAs will be able to make best use of the training programme as it offers the best course in leadership roles. “It is a historic occasion that all party MLAs have come under one roof to better themselves for the development of Arunachal,” he added.
The chief minister also said that lawmakers have a very important role to play in people’s lives as their decisions can have a great impact. “The orientation programme has been designed to make lawmakers efficient and competent. We can hope to see marked changes in the way our MLAs perform,” he said.
Khandu said Arunachal has huge potential and needs focused approach of the legislators to exploit it to full. He also said that the State is now tying up with the entertainment industry for making Arunachal a film making destination.
“Two film producers have already shown a keen interest and by September will be in the state for their initial tour for identifying probable film shooting location,” he said.
Similarly, Arunachal is taking steps to explore other potential sectors such as hydro-power, agriculture and allied sectors, and is planning to bring big investors, the CM said and urged the MLAs to play an effective role in this endeavour.
Khandu further said the capacity-building exercise for MLAs will be organised next year again with a new refresher course. He also said after training, the performance of MLAs will be monitored.
