Guwahati: Union minister of state (MoS) for home Kiren Rijiju’s emotional tribute to his father is taking the Internet by storm.

After his victory against Congress' Nabam Tuki, a former CM of the state, in the recently-held Lok Sabha elections from Arunachal West constituency, the BJP minister took to Facebook to acknowledge his father Rinchin Kharu’s undying spirit despite not being in good health.

Rijiju contested from his home turf, Arunachal West, and won the polls by securing 2,25,796 votes (63.02% vote share).

In the Facebook post, Rijiju said that his father “blessed” him. "He is not in good health now but maintaining a high spirit,” he wrote.

Through the tone of his post, one could feel the bonding that exists between the father and son, and how much he admires him. "I'm proud of him because of his unblemished morality. He is an institution and his traditional knowledge is plenteous. He only serves but never takes anything from others."

Rijiju’s father Rinchin Kharu was the first pro-term speaker of Arunachal Pradesh to give oath to the members of the first state assembly. He was an active social worker since his school days and led various social movements as a social worker and student leader.

Commenting on his father’s simplicity, Rijiju wrote: “He has not built house or any single property outside of his ancestral place not even at his MLA Constituency headquarter Bomdila [sic].”

Rijiju said he’d not go against his principles in his life. “People tell me that as a local MP I must have a house at Itanagar and other places but for me building houses and assets in people's heart is more valuable,” he added.
