Arunachal: Khonsa West MLA Tirong Aboh, 10 others killed in ambush
Itanagar: Tirong Aboh, the sitting MLA from Arunachal Pradesh's Khonsa West assembly constituency, was reportedly shot dead by insurgents near Bogapani on Tuesday morning.
Bogapani is a small village which falls under the Khonsa circle of Tirap district. Ten others, including Aboh’s son, were also reportedly killed in the ambush allegedly laid by an insurgent outfit active in the region.
Aboh's PSO is said to be in a critical condition. Aboh contested the assembly elections, the results of which will be declared on May 23, on a National People’s Party (NPP) ticket this year.
Meawhile, NPP chief and Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma took to Twitter to condemn the incident.
This is not the first time NPP workers have come under attack in Arunachal Pradesh. On March 29, an NPP supporter was allegedly beaten to death by unidentified miscreants at Kheti village in Tirap district.
The deceased was identified as Jaley Anna. Reportedly, the miscreants also attacked another person namely Khamney Aboh who was later admitted to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh, Assam.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh state BJP president Tapir Gao has strongly condemned the killing of the sitting MLA. “This cowardly criminal act is a murder of democracy and has no place in a civilised society. BJP Arunachal Pradesh strongly appeals to the authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and take stringent action against the perpetrators of the heinous crime,” he added.
Gao also conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased MLA and appealed to the people of Tirap to maintain peace at this sensitive juncture.
