Itanagar: The Election Commission (EC) has ordered re-polling in two polling stations for two assembly constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh on May 21.

The polling stations are Nampe in Koloriang assembly constituency under Kurung Kumey district and Gimba in Tali assembly constituency which falls under Kra Daadi district.

“The decision to conduct re-polling in the two booths was taken following complaints of electoral malpractices in the two polling booths and after recommendation of a team of the poll panel, which met representatives of different political parties here on May 14 last,” election officials said on Saturday.

The EC had, earlier this month, sent a four-member team to assess the ground situation in Tali and Palin assembly constituencies.

An official notification, released by the deputy chief electoral officer (CEO) here, said that the re-polls would be held from 6 am to 2 pm on May 21.

“The polling parties shall move from the assembly constituency headquarters or district headquarters depending upon where out of these two places, the electronic voting machines (EVMs) and other poll materials are available for conducting these fresh polls. Each polling party shall be headed by at least an assistant registering officer who shall also function as the presiding officer of the respective polling station for these re-polls,” the notification said.

The notification further added that other members of the polling parties shall be taken locally as far as possible and as required in the interest of having minimum delay in organizing of these re-polls. Adequate security arrangement shall be made for the polling process during the fresh polls and also for the team conducting these fresh polls, the deputy CEO said.

Re-polling was earlier held in 18 booths (including Nampe and Gima) of the state on April 20 and 27, however, several allegations of violence, assault on polling officials, snapping of bridges electoral malpractices, were alleged by political parties during the process.
