Arunachal: 103 volunteers donate blood on World Red Cross Day

Itanagar: As part of World Red Cross Day, a blood donation camp was organised at Raj Bhavan in Itanagar on Wednesday. Of the 120 volunteers, 103 individuals donated blood. Ten women were among those who contributed to the noble cause.

As per Raj Bhavan Dispensary’s senior medical officer (SMO) Dr Jennifer Tayeng, 29 units of blood collected were A-positive, 31 were B-positive, 10 were AB-positive, 31 were O-positive and two units were AB-negative.

The SMO pointed out that as negative blood groups are very rare and difficult to get, of the 6 (Rh) negative volunteers, only two donated blood on Wednesday and four other volunteers were kept as standby for emergency cases.

Personnel from NDRF, ITBP, CRPF and state police, students and teachers from schools, colleges and university, volunteers from NGOs and government departments were part of those who donated blood during the special initiative.

Arunachal Pradesh governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd); his wife Neelam Misra; Dr Vanshree Singh, director, Blood Bank, Indian Red Cross Society, national headquarters, New Delhi; health and family welfare secretary and National Health Mission MD Juhi Mukherjee;12th Bn NDRF, Doimukh commandant Umesh Kumar Thapiyal; health director Dr M Lego; IRCS, Arunachal Pradesh, vice-chairman, Er Tomi Ete; and Arunachal Pradesh IRCS honorary secretary Dr Emi Rumi, among others, participated in the camp.

The camp was organised on the occasion by the Indian Red Cross Society, Arunachal Pradesh branch, in collaboration with Raj Bhavan, Itanagar, Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar, and Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Science (TRIHMS), Naharlagun.
